Tamil Nadu Assembly Election Nomination Process Commences with Enhanced Security Measures
In Salem, the nomination filing process for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly election is set to begin on Monday, March 30, and will continue until April 6, excluding public holidays. This critical phase marks the official start of electoral preparations, with stringent guidelines enforced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure transparency and order.
Strict Protocols and Limited Access for Nomination Filing
Salem district election officer R Brindha Devi has outlined detailed rules for the nomination process. Nominations will be accepted only during a restricted time window from 11 am to 3 pm each day. To maintain social distancing and security, only five individuals, including the candidate, are permitted during the filing. Specifically, a maximum of four people can accompany the candidate to the returning officer's office, and only three vehicles per candidate are allowed within a 100-meter radius of the office premises.
Comprehensive Surveillance and Infrastructure Preparedness
Authorities have implemented robust security measures, including the installation of 360-degree surveillance cameras both inside and outside the nomination filing rooms. Steps have been taken to ensure an uninterrupted power supply, and the entire nomination process will be video recorded to uphold integrity. Additionally, all activities outside the election officer's office will also be captured on video, providing a complete audit trail.
Digital and Paper-Based Nomination Options
Candidates have the flexibility to file nominations either in person or online. Nomination papers must be submitted using Form 22, and for online submissions, the ECI's portal at suvidha.eci.gov.in can be utilized. Through this platform, candidates can fill Form 26 online to submit personal details and affidavits, and make deposit payments electronically. However, online filing will close one day before the final nomination deadline. For paper submissions, candidates must provide a printed QR-coded form, signed in ink, directly to the returning officer or via a proposer.
Special Provisions for NRI Candidates and ECI Compliance
Non-Resident Indian (NRI) candidates residing abroad are required to take an oath before the Indian embassy or consulate in their country of residence. Election officials have urged all political parties and independent candidates to strictly adhere to ECI guidelines during the nomination process to avoid any discrepancies or delays.
This meticulous approach aims to streamline the electoral process while ensuring fairness and security, setting the stage for a smooth conduct of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
