Tragic Collision on Sambalpur Highway Claims Three Lives
A devastating road accident resulted in the deaths of three individuals on National Highway 55 in Sambalpur district this Sunday. The incident occurred near Nakshapali when a car violently crashed into the rear of a stationary truck laden with fly ash.
Details of the Fatal Accident
According to Officer Aditya Mahakud from the Dhanupali police station, the collision happened between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. The truck was parked on the extreme left side of the highway when the car, bearing a Rourkela registration number, slammed into it from behind.
The force of the impact was catastrophic, completely mangling the front portion of the car. Two occupants died on the spot due to the severe injuries sustained. The third person, critically injured, was immediately transported to Vimsar hospital in Burla for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, doctors at the hospital later declared this individual dead as well.
Rescue Efforts and Preliminary Findings
Local residents were the first responders at the grim accident site, attempting to rescue the victims trapped inside the wreckage. Upon receiving the alert, fire service teams rushed to the location. They had to employ specialized cutting equipment to pry open the deformed doors of the car and retrieve the body of the driver.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the deceased were residents of the Motijharan area. The exact cause of the accident, whether it was driver fatigue, high speed, or a combination of factors, is under active investigation by the authorities. The accident has once again highlighted the dangers on the busy NH-55 stretch.
The police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough probe to ascertain the complete sequence of events. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, and the process of informing the families has been initiated.
