Telangana Minister Meets Andhra CM to Address Pending Bifurcation Issues

In a significant political development, Telangana minister Tummala Nageswara Rao called on Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu on Monday to discuss various unresolved matters stemming from the state bifurcation. The meeting focused on fostering cooperation between the two neighboring states to resolve long-standing issues that have persisted since the division.

Border Village Merger Request

One of the primary topics of discussion was the status of border villages affected by the Polavaram project. Minister Rao formally requested the merger of five villages along the border in the combined Khammam district back to Telangana. He emphasized that these villages are geographically situated within Telangana but were merged into Andhra Pradesh following the annexation of the seven Polavaram submergence mandals to AP. This move aims to correct administrative boundaries and ensure territorial integrity for Telangana.

Cost-Sharing for Pedda Vagu Project

Another critical issue raised was the financial responsibility for the Pedda Vagu project repair works. Rao proposed a pro-rata cost-sharing model, arguing that since the majority of the land under irrigation from this project lies in Andhra Pradesh, the state should bear a larger portion of the expenses. Specifically, he requested that Naidu's government cover 85% of the estimated cost, which amounts to approximately Rs 92.2 crore. This proposal seeks to ensure fair financial contributions based on the benefits derived by each state.

Infrastructure and Development Initiatives

The discussions also extended to broader infrastructure and development projects crucial for both states. Rao highlighted the need to strengthen the river bund in Bhadrachalam, a measure essential for flood control and regional safety. Additionally, he addressed the pending railway lines between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, urging expedited cooperation to enhance connectivity and economic growth.

In a gesture of cultural and religious collaboration, Rao requested the allotment of five acres of land in Tirumala for Telangana state. This land would support state-specific activities and pilgrim services. Furthermore, he sought Naidu's cooperation for the construction of the TTD temple in Khammam, emphasizing the importance of such projects in fostering communal harmony and regional development.

The meeting underscored a mutual commitment to resolving bifurcation-related challenges through dialogue and cooperation. Both leaders expressed optimism about finding amicable solutions that benefit the residents of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, paving the way for improved inter-state relations and sustainable development.
