In a landmark initiative to strengthen cultural ties and provide comprehensive support to people from Northeastern states, the Telangana government has announced plans to establish India's first dedicated North East Connect Centre in Hyderabad.
Historic Announcement at Techno-Cultural Festival
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy made the significant declaration on Thursday while inaugurating the 'Telangana-North East India Connect: A Techno-Cultural Festival' in Hyderabad. The event was organized in collaboration with Raj Bhavan and the Ministry for the Development of the North Eastern Region.
The Chief Minister emphasized that Telangana has become a second home for numerous individuals from the Northeast who are now contributing significantly to various sectors including software, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, tourism, hospitality, startups, and sports across the state.
Comprehensive Facilities for All Eight States
The proposed North East Connect Centre will be developed in the ambitious 'Future City' project at Mucherla, located approximately 50 kilometers from Hyderabad. The state government will allocate land specifically for all eight Northeastern states: Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.
Each state will have the opportunity to construct their own buildings that will house multiple facilities including hostel accommodations for students and professionals, centers showcasing regional cuisine, exhibition spaces for handicrafts, and platforms for cultural and art displays.
This initiative marks the first time any Indian state is creating such a comprehensive dedicated space for all Northeastern states collectively, representing a significant step in inter-regional cooperation and cultural integration.
Strengthening Cultural and Development Bonds
Chief Minister Reddy extended his gratitude to the people from Northeastern states who have integrated with the Telangana community and contributed to the state's development. He highlighted that the centre would serve as a vital platform for cultural exchange programs between Telangana and the Northeastern regions.
The Chief Minister made an interesting observation about the existing connections between the regions, noting the coincidence that a person from Telangana currently serves as the Governor of Tripura, while simultaneously a person from Tripura holds the position of Telangana's Governor.
Reddy stressed that cooperation from Northeastern communities would be crucial in advancing Telangana's development objectives and realizing the state's Telangana Rising Vision 2047 roadmap. He acknowledged that the Northeastern region possesses rich cultural heritage and environmental resources, many aspects of which remain under-recognized nationally.
The festival itself showcased the spirit of unity between Telangana and the Northeastern states, with the Chief Minister emphasizing that Telugu people can easily understand the concerns about regional identity that citizens from Northeastern states often experience.
The proposed Future City at Mucherla, where the North East Connect Centre will be established, is envisioned as a model for sustainable urban development and technological innovation. The massive project will span across 30,000 acres between the Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar highways, representing one of Telangana's most ambitious urban development initiatives.
