Swarupnagar: TMC's Bina Mondal Seeks Fourth Term in 2026

Swarupnagar, a Scheduled Caste-reserved constituency in North 24 Parganas district, is located close to the Bangladesh border. The seat is largely rural with a strong Scheduled Caste voter base. In the upcoming 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, sitting Trinamool Congress MLA Bina Mondal will seek re-election against Bharatiya Janata Party's Tarak Saha.

Electoral History

In the 2021 assembly election, TMC's Bina Mondal won comfortably with 99,784 votes, defeating BJP's Brindaban Sarkar by a wide margin of 34,800 votes. This victory bucked the BJP wave seen in adjacent constituencies. In 2016, Mondal had also won for TMC with 93,807 votes, beating CPI(M)'s Dhiman Sarkar by 11,941 votes. In 2011, she won her first term by a margin of 7,414 votes.

Bina Mondal's Dominance

Bina Mondal's three consecutive victories make her a formidable incumbent. Her consistent performance and strong grassroots connect have solidified TMC's hold on this seat. The party views Swarupnagar as a reliable stronghold in the 2026 elections.

With the BJP fielding Tarak Saha, the contest is expected to be closely watched. However, Mondal's track record and the constituency's demographic profile may work in her favor.
