Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Inaugurates Major Civic Infrastructure Projects in Kolathur
In a significant boost to urban development in North Chennai, Chief Minister M K Stalin on Sunday inaugurated a series of civic infrastructure projects with a total value of Rs 44.88 crore in the Kolathur constituency. The projects, executed under the comprehensive North Chennai development scheme, aim to enhance public amenities and improve the quality of life for residents in the region.

The newly inaugurated projects span multiple civic agencies, reflecting a coordinated effort to address various infrastructure needs. The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) completed three key projects at a cost of Rs 28.25 crore. Simultaneously, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) contributed three projects worth Rs 4.15 crore, and the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) executed upgraded sewage pumping stations valued at Rs 12.48 crore.
Key Projects Inaugurated by CMDA
Among the prominent CMDA projects, the upgraded Murasoli Maran Park stands out, developed at a cost of Rs 4.20 crore on Perambur High Road. This revitalized green space is expected to serve as a recreational hub for the local community.
Another significant initiative is the Mudhalvar Padaipagam and modern library, constructed at Rs 4.75 crore on a 4,127 square foot site in Jawahar Nagar. This facility is designed to promote education and literacy in the area.
The Kolathur modern market complex, built on Paper Mills Road at a substantial investment of Rs 19.30 crore, occupies a 61,230 square foot site. This modern market is anticipated to streamline commercial activities and provide improved facilities for vendors and shoppers alike.
Additionally, the Kalaignar Centenary Coin Memorial was inaugurated, adding to the cultural and historical landmarks in the constituency.
GCC Projects Enhancing Local Amenities
The Greater Chennai Corporation's contributions include a women's gymnasium in Jawahar Nagar, constructed at Rs 49 lakh, aimed at promoting health and fitness among female residents.
A multi-purpose building with two fair price shops was inaugurated in Ramana Nagar, built at Rs 41 lakh, to support community services and affordable retail options.
Furthermore, a new school building at Srinivasa Nagar in the Thiru Vi Ka Nagar zone, constructed at Rs 3.25 crore under the MLA constituency development fund, was unveiled to bolster educational infrastructure.
CMWSSB's Critical Sewage Upgrades
Chief Minister Stalin also inaugurated upgraded sewage pumping stations across Kolathur, executed by CMWSSB at a cost of Rs 12.48 crore. These enhancements are crucial for improving sanitation and public health in the densely populated area.
Welfare Initiatives and Community Support
In a separate event at the Don Bosco School campus on Pallavan Salai, CM Stalin distributed welfare assistance to 3,200 Muslims ahead of the holy month of Ramzan, demonstrating the government's commitment to social inclusivity.
The chief minister also presented laptops and certificates to 85 students who successfully completed Tally training at Anita Achievers Academy, supporting skill development and digital literacy.
Additionally, sewing machines and certificates were distributed to 320 women who completed tailoring training, empowering them with vocational skills. Spectacles and clothing were provided to 200 individuals who underwent eye screening at the Kalaignar Eye Hospital, highlighting the administration's focus on healthcare and welfare.
