Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Unveils Major Agricultural Infrastructure Projects
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin inaugurated a series of significant agricultural infrastructure projects on Monday, marking a substantial investment in the state's farming sector. The projects, completed at a total cost of ₹53 crore, were launched through a video conference, demonstrating the government's commitment to modernizing agriculture across Tamil Nadu.
Comprehensive Agricultural Development Initiatives
The newly inaugurated infrastructure includes integrated agriculture extension centers, six sub-extension centers, seed banks, and cold storage facilities. These facilities are designed to enhance agricultural productivity, provide better storage solutions, and support farmers with essential resources. In addition to these projects, Stalin also inaugurated 16 direct farm markets established in Chennai and neighboring districts, with an investment of ₹2 crore. These markets aim to create direct linkages between farmers and consumers, reducing intermediaries and improving profitability for agricultural producers.
Strengthening Farm Equipment Accessibility
To further support the farming community, the Chief Minister distributed 672 units of farm equipment valued at ₹13 crore. This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen the rental mechanism for agricultural machinery, benefiting farmers who cannot afford large equipment such as tractors and harvest machines. By providing access to modern tools, the government seeks to enhance efficiency and reduce the financial burden on small and marginal farmers.
Honoring Cultural Icons with Prestigious Awards
During the event, Stalin also presented the Kalaignar memorial ‘Kalaithurai Vithagar' award to legendary Tamil actress M N Rajam and renowned Tamil director S P Muthuraman. Both awardees received ₹10 lakh each in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Tamil cinema and culture. This gesture highlights the government's appreciation for artistic excellence and its role in preserving and promoting Tamil heritage.
The inauguration of these projects and the recognition of cultural figures underscore the Tamil Nadu government's multifaceted approach to development, focusing on both economic growth and cultural preservation.
