Varanasi: In a shocking incident, Samajwadi Party Mahila Sabha district president Gargi Singh Patel was assaulted by intruders inside her home in Madhiya village in the Mugalsarai area of Chandauli district on Thursday. The entire attack was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the residence.
Attack Details
The assault took place around 9.24 am when Patel was at her residence preparing to leave for a business-related matter. Her business partner, Pyare Lal Yadav, arrived at the house. According to the complaint, SP leader Manoj Yadav, along with Dali, Amit Yadav, and Urmila, entered behind Yadav and forced their way inside. An argument broke out soon after their entry, which escalated into violence within minutes.
CCTV footage shows five people inside the premises, with four actively attacking Patel while one remains nearby. In the video, a young man is seen grabbing Patel by the hair and dragging her roughly 10 metres. Another man repeatedly punches her on the back and face, while a woman kicks her during the assault. The beating continues for nearly two minutes, with the attackers allegedly using abusive language.
Police Response
Neighbours rushed in after hearing the commotion, following which the accused fled, police said. Patel sustained injuries around her eyes, along with swelling and injury marks on multiple parts of her body. She was taken to the district hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. Dial 112 was alerted, and the outpost in-charge reached the spot with police personnel and arranged an ambulance.
Police said a case has been registered and raids are underway to arrest the accused. Circle officer, PDDU Nagar, Arun Kumar Singh, said efforts are on to arrest the attackers. The dispute appears linked to a land business transaction and a misunderstanding involving the business partner's family.
This incident highlights the vulnerability of women in public life and the need for swift justice. The Samajwadi Party has condemned the attack and demanded strict action against the perpetrators.
