Silchar Students Launch Signature Drive for Flyover, Target 6000 Signatures
Silchar Students Push for Flyover with Signature Campaign

A major student-led initiative has taken off in Silchar, pressing the Assam government to prioritize the construction of a much-needed flyover in the city. The campaign, which involves a large-scale signature drive, aims to demonstrate strong public support for the critical infrastructure project.

Students Take the Lead on Infrastructure Demand

The movement is spearheaded by the South Assam Flyover Demand Students’ Association, a collective of students from various educational institutions across Silchar. Frustrated by the delay and recognizing the flyover as an essential requirement for the city's growth and traffic management, the association has decided to take direct action. Their primary tool is a petition they plan to submit to the chief minister’s office to forcefully draw the government's attention to the issue.

Ambitious Signature Drive Launched

The campaign formally began on Thursday from the premises of the Silchar Press Club. Addressing the media, Aryan Roy, an association member and a student of Cachar College, outlined their ambitious plan. The group has set a target of collecting approximately 6,000 signatures from concerned citizens within a tight timeframe of just five to six days. This rapid mobilization underscores the urgency students associate with the project.

Building Public Pressure for Action

The signature campaign represents a strategic move to translate public sentiment into tangible, quantifiable evidence of demand. By gathering thousands of signatures, the students aim to create a compelling document that the state administration cannot easily ignore. The move highlights how civic groups, particularly the youth, are increasingly organizing to advocate for local development issues they deem vital. The success of this drive could set a precedent for community-led advocacy on infrastructure projects in the region.

The association's members are now actively canvassing across Silchar, explaining the flyover's importance and seeking public endorsement. All eyes will be on whether they meet their 6000-signature target and what response their petition receives from the state government in Dispur.
