The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has launched a sharp criticism against the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government, accusing it of misusing public funds during a recent legislative session in Sri Anandpur Sahib. The political party claims that crores of rupees were wasted on what they describe as a sham Vidhan Sabha session that could have been better spent on infrastructure development in the holy city.
Political Accusations Fly Over Session Spending
In a strongly worded written statement, SAD MLA Ganieve Kaur Majithia expressed deep disappointment with the government's decision-making. She emphasized that the occasion marked the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, which presented a golden opportunity for meaningful development work in Sri Anandpur Sahib.
"The AAP government could have used this significant religious occasion to boost infrastructure in Sri Anandpur Sahib, but instead chose to play dirty politics on such a pious occasion," Majithia stated. She further accused the government of organizing a one-day session with zero outcome that ultimately benefited only one tent owner financially.
Contrast With Previous Government Initiatives
The Akali Dal leader drew comparisons with how previous administrations had handled similar historic occasions. She highlighted several major projects initiated during the tenure of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal that had lasting positive impacts on the state.
During the 300th Khalsa Sajna Diwas in 1999, the Badal government established Virasat E Khalsa with an investment of Rs 300 crore. Another significant achievement mentioned was the Guru Gobind Singh Bathinda refinery project worth Rs 22,000 crore. The establishment of Guru Granth Sahib World University in Fatehgarh Sahib was also cited as an example of productive use of historical occasions for state development.
Allegations of Political Motives
Majithia expressed surprise at Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's conduct, noting that instead of cooperating with the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee (SGPC) for religious functions, the government chose to attack the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
"On the other hand, the AAP government wasted public money and played dirty politics on the occasion only to please its boss Arvind Kejriwal," the SAD leader asserted. She concluded with a strong warning that Punjabis would never forget this cheap theatrics of Bhagwant Mann and would teach the party a lifetime lesson for what she described as looting public money.
The accusations come at a time when political tensions in Punjab remain high, with opposition parties closely monitoring the AAP government's spending decisions and policy implementations across the state.
