SAD Urges Punjab Governor to Intervene for Majithia's Protection
Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leaders approached Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Friday. They requested immediate directions to ensure the safety of former minister Bikram Singh Majithia. The party explicitly stated it lacks confidence in the Aam Aadmi Party government and the Punjab Director General of Police. They believe these authorities will not take effective steps to safeguard the senior Akali leader.
Allegations of Grave Threats and Rights Violations
During their representation at Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh, the SAD delegation apprised the governor about serious threats to Majithia's life. They also alleged violations of his fundamental rights. The leaders claimed misconduct is being perpetrated against him under the AAP government's direction.
The delegation included prominent figures like Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Maheshinder Singh Grewal, and Daljit Singh Cheema. Majithia's wife, Ganieve Kaur Majithia, who is the MLA from Majitha, also participated. Advocate Arshdeep Singh Kler and Damanbir Singh Sobti joined them.
They emphasized that no concrete actions are being taken to protect Majithia and his family. This neglect persists despite high court directives. Central intelligence inputs indicate Babbar Khalsa International may target him for elimination.
Prison Surveillance and Privacy Concerns
The SAD leaders criticized the installation of additional cameras in Majithia's prison cell at Nabha jail. They called this move an eyewash and a further violation of his fundamental rights. Multiple cameras already monitor his every movement, making extra surveillance unnecessary.
They revealed attempts to position a camera facing the washroom and toilet area. This could record Majithia undressed or without his turban or 'parna'. Such actions invade his privacy and hurt his religious sentiments deliberately.
Security Withdrawal and False Affidavits
The compromise of Majithia's safety began on March 29, according to the Akali Dal. At the behest of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the ADGP (Security), his Z-plus security cover was arbitrarily withdrawn. When Majithia approached the high court, DGP Gaurav Yadav filed a false affidavit. It stated no threat exists from terrorist outfits or gangsters.
Intelligence Leaks and Jail Incidents
On January 1 this year, two Deputy Inspector Generals visited Majithia in jail. They informed him about BKI plans to target him inside the jail premises. The jail superintendent remained silent despite inquiries. Majithia then alerted the chief judicial magistrate about the danger to his life.
Shockingly, intelligence inputs about the threat perception were circulated in the media. The SAD leaders compared this to how gangsters learned about Sidhu Moose Wala's security withdrawal.
During Ganieve Kaur Majithia's visit to Nabha jail on January 15, cameras were installed to view their meeting. There is a grave apprehension that these cameras have microphones.
Lack of Faith in State Authorities
The SAD leaders submitted they have no faith in the state government or the DGP. They warned that any harm to Majithia should be attributed to the tacit collusion of the Chief Minister and DGP Gaurav Yadav.
