Ramdas Athawale's Republican Party of India (RPI) has placed specific conditions before the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. The party has warned that it will contest the elections solo if its demands are not addressed.
Conditions for Alliance
Speaking to reporters, Athawale stated that the RPI expects a respectable number of seats to contest in the upcoming polls. He emphasized that the party has a significant Dalit base in Uttar Pradesh and deserves due recognition. The RPI has also demanded representation in key committees and policy-making bodies.
Warning of Solo Contest
Athawale cautioned that if the BJP fails to accommodate the RPI's demands, the party will not hesitate to fight the elections independently. He asserted that the RPI is capable of making an impact on its own and will not compromise on its principles.
The RPI's stance comes as parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, a crucial state for national politics. The BJP, which has been in power in the state since 2017, is seeking to retain its dominance amid challenges from opposition parties.
Political analysts view the RPI's conditions as a strategic move to leverage its influence among Dalit voters. The party's decision could affect the electoral arithmetic in several constituencies.
