In a significant public address, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy made a solemn pledge at the revered Bhadrachalam temple, vowing to take complete responsibility for the comprehensive development of the erstwhile Khammam district. The CM's commitment came during a public meeting in Kothagudem, held as part of the Congress government's two-year celebration tours.
Appeal for Governance and Continuity of Welfare Schemes
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the Manmohan Singh Earth Sciences University, CM Revanth Reddy made a direct appeal to the people. He urged them to elect responsible sarpanches in their villages who would collaborate with ministers to ensure good governance continues. The Chief Minister linked the election of good local leaders directly to the continuation of popular welfare initiatives.
"If there is good governance, welfare schemes such as 200 units of free electricity, distribution of ration cards, fine rice, Indiramma houses, Indiramma sarees, and more will continue," Revanth Reddy stated. He cautioned the public against the false promises of opposition parties and emphasized the need for sustained support for the Congress administration.
Focus on Irrigation and Education as Development Pillars
The Chief Minister assured the people of Khammam that his government would complete all pending irrigation projects in the district. He cited the policy of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, focusing on irrigation and education, as an inspiration for his administration's development priorities for Khammam.
Revanth Reddy accused the previous BRS government of neglecting Khammam district due to greed for commissions, which led to a failure in completing any irrigation projects. "The Congress government will complete the projects and ensure that every acre in the district gets water from both Krishna and Godavari rivers," he declared confidently.
Earth Sciences University: A Tribute and a Tool for Progress
The newly inaugurated Manmohan Singh Earth Sciences University was highlighted as a landmark institution. The CM noted that naming the university after former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh was fitting, as the Telangana statehood agitation gained momentum during his tenure. He pointed out that the agitation began in Palvancha in Khammam district when lands were acquired for a thermal power station but jobs were given to outsiders.
Revanth Reddy explained that the courses offered at this university would significantly strengthen the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who also spoke at the event, described the foundation as a historic moment for Telangana and India. He stated the university would be built to global standards and would focus on studying mineral resources and earth systems for the benefit of the nation and the world.
Political Outreach and Future Plans
This public meeting was the second in CM Revanth Reddy's district tours. He asked for the people's mandate for the next ten years to make Telangana the number one state in the country in development and welfare. The Chief Minister also apologized for arriving late and leaving the venue early, attributing the delay to a technical issue with his helicopter.
He revealed his early departure was to rush to New Delhi to personally invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi to the Global Summit scheduled for December 8 and 9 at the Bharat Future City. He assured the Khammam public that he would return later to discuss district development plans in detail.
Ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Vakiti Srihari, and CPI MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao were present and sought public support for the Revanth Reddy-led government to deliver more welfare and development initiatives.
