Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Launches Scathing Attack on Kerala Counterpart Pinarayi Vijayan
In a fiery political statement on Thursday, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy drew sharp parallels between the governance of Kerala's CM Pinarayi Vijayan and former Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao. Reddy alleged that both leaders presided over administrations characterized by rampant corruption, family-centric rule, and a severe lack of effective governance during their respective tenures.
Direct Comparison to KCR's Alleged Misrule
"The similarities are striking and deeply concerning," stated Reddy. "Vijayan has been at the helm in Kerala for the past decade, mirroring the way K Chandrashekar Rao governed Telangana from 2014 until recently. Both periods are marked by what I would describe as the highest levels of corruption and the lowest standards of governance."
Reddy pointed to what he termed a 'political miracle' in Telangana, where voters decisively ousted Rao's government in December 2023 and brought the Congress party to power. He expressed strong confidence that the people of Kerala would follow a similar path, opting for the United Democratic Front (UDF) coalition for at least the next two electoral cycles.
Economic Contrasts and an Open Challenge
The Telangana leader highlighted stark economic differences between the two states under current leadership. He claimed that while Telangana has successfully attracted significant industrial investments and achieved high per capita income with controlled inflation, Kerala struggles with some of the highest inflation rates in the country.
"Our state has launched an ambitious vision document titled 'Telangana Rising 2047', aiming to transform into a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and reach $3 trillion by 2047," Reddy elaborated. "If Telangana can accomplish these goals, why can't Kerala achieve similar progress?"
In a bold move, Reddy extended a direct invitation to CM Vijayan. "I want to challenge Vijayan personally. I will make all necessary arrangements for you and your team to visit Telangana. I will accompany you myself or delegate a minister to provide a comprehensive explanation of how we are implementing all six of our key guarantee schemes effectively."
Call for Political Change in Kerala
Reddy emphasized that the time has come for Kerala's citizens to make a crucial decision about their state's future leadership. He assured that he stands in solidarity with the people of Kerala and promised that a UDF government would faithfully implement all guarantees pledged to the electorate.
Warning on Delimitation and Allegations of 'Modi Brothers'
Shifting focus to national politics, Reddy called for southern states to unite against the Union government's proposed delimitation exercise. He warned that this process would drastically reduce the political influence of southern states in Parliament.
"The increase in Lok Sabha seats will widen the existing gap between states like Kerala and Uttar Pradesh," Reddy argued. "Currently, Kerala has 20 MPs compared to UP's 80. After delimitation, Kerala might have 30 seats while UP could have 120, increasing the disparity by 90 seats. This would effectively relegate southern citizens to second-grade status in our own nation."
Reddy questioned why CM Vijayan has not vocally opposed this policy, suggesting it might be due to corruption allegations. "This situation reveals what I call the 'Modi brothers'. One brother operates from Delhi, while the other is based in Thiruvananthapuram," he alleged, implying a covert alliance between the central and Kerala governments.
The Telangana CM's comments have ignited a fresh political debate, highlighting tensions between Congress-ruled states and those governed by other parties, while raising critical questions about regional representation and governance standards in India's federal structure.
