CM Revanth Reddy Meets Priyanka Gandhi in Delhi, Hails Congress Victory in Telangana Municipal Polls
In a significant political development, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy met Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi in New Delhi on Friday. The meeting focused on the party's recent triumph in the municipal elections across Telangana, marking a major milestone for the Congress government. Revanth Reddy returned to Hyderabad in the evening after concluding his two-day visit to the national capital, where he briefed Priyanka Gandhi on the electoral outcomes and future strategies.
Overwhelming Endorsement by Urban Voters
Revanth Reddy described the Congress victory as an overwhelming endorsement by urban voters, reflecting strong support for the party's two years of welfare and development-oriented governance. He emphasized that the government will now prioritize the development of all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), with a special focus on enhancing infrastructure and providing essential civic amenities. This move aims to address urban challenges and improve the quality of life for residents in municipalities and corporations.
Strategic Meetings and Alliance Discussions
Sources indicate that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is expected to hold an online meeting late on Friday or on Saturday with ministers and key party leaders. This meeting will discuss the strategy for electing mayors, deputy mayors, chairpersons, and their deputies in the municipal corporations and municipalities. The discussions are crucial as the Congress seeks to consolidate its gains and navigate post-poll scenarios.
In some areas, such as Nizamabad and Karimnagar, the BJP emerged as the single largest party but fell short of the magic figure required for a majority. Similarly, a hung situation prevailed in the Mahabubnagar municipal corporation for the Congress. As a result, Revanth Reddy's meeting with ministers and senior leaders is anticipated to take crucial decisions on forming post-poll alliances with independents, AIMIM, and other parties to secure stable governance.
Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka Highlights Congress Success
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka addressed a media conference at Gandhi Bhavan after the municipal poll results were declared. He claimed that the Congress has decisively won 83 municipalities and five municipal corporations. Of the total 116 municipalities, he projected that the Congress is likely to secure between 90 and 94 municipalities overall.
Vikramarka stated, "Elections were conducted in seven municipal corporations, and the Congress achieved a majority in five corporations, while a hung situation emerged in the remaining two. The BJP, Congress, and independent candidates are present in those corporations, and the final numbers may increase once complete details are available."
Public Trust and Governance Commitment
Expressing great satisfaction, Vikramarka noted that this victory marks the Congress securing such a large number of municipal seats after nearly two decades. He asserted that the results demonstrate people's strong trust in development and welfare governance, with the electorate carefully observing political developments.
He said, "The people delivered an appropriate verdict in the local body elections after observing the daily criticism and fabricated narratives spread by BRS and BJP leaders against the state government and the Congress party." With the clear mandate from urban voters, Vikramarka emphasized that the responsibility of the Congress government has increased further, and he assured that governance will be delivered with the highest standards, reflecting the state government's commitment to the people.
Call for Responsible Opposition
The deputy chief minister highlighted that the public has continuously endorsed the people's government in successive elections, including Parliament elections, Cantonment and Jubilee Hills bypolls, and later panchayat elections. He advised opposition parties to take note of the mood among electors in the state.
Bhatti urged opposition parties to stop spreading false propaganda and fabricated stories to remain visible in the media and maintain political relevance. He stressed that a healthy opposition should exist in the state but must act responsibly toward the people. He also expressed gratitude to party leaders and workers who worked hard to achieve this significant victory, acknowledging their efforts in securing the electoral success.
