Ranchi is undergoing a significant transformation as the city prepares for Jharkhand's 25th Statehood Day celebrations on November 15. This important date also marks the birth anniversary of tribal freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda and is celebrated nationwide as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (Tribal Pride Day).
Municipal Corporation's Comprehensive Plan
Sanjay Kumar, the additional administrator of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), has issued clear directives to ensure all preparations are completed on schedule. Each activity must reflect the spirit of Jharkhand's 25th foundation year, Kumar emphasized during his coordination meetings with various departments.
The municipal chief stressed that cleanliness, lighting arrangements, and public convenience facilities should be of the highest quality. Our goal is to create a welcoming environment for both citizens and guests during this significant celebration, Kumar stated, highlighting the importance of the occasion.
Restoration of Historical Memorials
The RMC has launched intensive restoration and cleanliness drives at key historical sites associated with Birsa Munda's legacy. Two prominent locations receiving special attention are the Kokar Birsa Munda Memorial, where the tribal icon's remains are enshrined, and the jail park statue that symbolizes his courageous struggle against British colonial rule.
At the Kokar Memorial, restoration work is progressing rapidly. RMC workers are meticulously repainting the statue and boundary walls while polishing the memorial plate to restore its original shine. The team is also clearing accumulated garbage from nearby roads to enhance the overall appearance of the area.
We are using high-quality paint and protective coating to ensure durability, explained Ajay Prasad, an RMC worker actively engaged in the restoration activities. This careful approach guarantees that the memorial will maintain its dignified appearance long after the celebrations conclude.
City-Wide Beautification Efforts
Similar restoration work is simultaneously underway at the jail park, where workers are cleaning the statue and its immediate surroundings. Gardeners are carefully pruning overgrown trees that had begun to encroach on footpaths and power lines, addressing both aesthetic and safety concerns.
Sunil Oraon, a gardener with RMC, described the ongoing work: Branches had grown thick on the footpath and near the power lines. We're systematically trimming them and clearing all debris to restore proper access and visibility.
Local residents have expressed appreciation for these beautification efforts. Pratima Ekka, a Kokar resident, shared her thoughts: Birsa Munda's contribution defines Jharkhand's identity. It's heartening to see these memorials being maintained with such care before his birthday and Statehood Day.
