Ramgarh District Reports Significant Mining Revenue Growth and Royalty Inflow
Officials in Ramgarh district announced on Thursday that the district has received a substantial Rs 203 crore as mining royalties into its District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT) during the last fiscal year. This marks a notable increase compared to the Rs 171 crore received in the 2024-25 financial year, highlighting a positive trend in mineral revenue contributions.
Exceeding Revenue Targets and Achieving Growth
The district's overall mining revenue collection for the last fiscal reached an impressive Rs 1,403 crore, which significantly surpassed the state mining department's target of Rs 1,193 crore. Deputy Commissioner Faiz Aq Ahmed Mumtaz emphasized the district's strong performance, stating, "The district has made good achievement in terms of mining revenue collection with a substantial increase of 63% as compared to the 2024-25 FY. DMFT share has also increased."
This 63% growth in mining revenue reflects robust economic activity and effective management in the region's mineral sector. The increased funds are earmarked for critical development initiatives, particularly in areas impacted by mining operations.
Utilization of DMFT Funds for Development
Deputy Commissioner Mumtaz further clarified the purpose of the DMFT funds, noting, "The funds will be used for development works in mining affected areas." This allocation underscores a commitment to addressing the environmental and social challenges associated with mining, ensuring that local communities benefit from the region's natural resources.
The DMFT mechanism is designed to channel a portion of mining royalties into sustainable projects, such as:
- Infrastructure improvements in mining-affected zones
- Healthcare and educational facilities for local residents
- Environmental restoration and conservation efforts
- Community welfare programs to enhance quality of life
Crackdown on Illegal Mining Activities
In parallel with the revenue achievements, authorities have intensified efforts to combat illegal mining. District Mining Officer Nishant Abhishek reported that 63 FIRs were registered across various police stations in Ramgarh against illegal mining and the unauthorized transportation of minerals during the last fiscal year.
Abhishek added, "This apart, 107 vehicles ferrying minerals illegally were seized." These enforcement actions demonstrate a proactive approach to regulating the mining sector, aiming to curb illicit activities that can undermine legal revenue streams and environmental standards.
The combined focus on revenue enhancement and regulatory compliance positions Ramgarh as a key player in the state's mining economy, with ongoing efforts to balance economic growth with responsible resource management.
