Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday alleged that the theft case at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has exposed a clear division between the central government and the Uttar Pradesh government, highlighting a growing rift within the Bharatiya Janata Party. Speaking to reporters in Lucknow, Yadav claimed that the incident reveals the lack of coordination between the two BJP-led administrations.

Yadav stated, "The Ram Temple theft case has made it evident that there is a clear division between the Centre and the UP government. This is a reflection of the internal rift within the BJP." He further accused the BJP of prioritizing political interests over the security of the temple, which he described as a symbol of faith for millions of Hindus. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister also questioned the timing of the theft, suggesting it was a deliberate attempt to divert attention from pressing issues like unemployment and inflation.
The Theft Incident
The theft at the Ram Temple occurred on the night of July 4, when unidentified individuals stole donation boxes containing an estimated ₹1.5 lakh. The incident triggered a security review and led to the suspension of two temple security personnel. The temple trust, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, filed a complaint with the Ayodhya police, who have since registered a case and launched an investigation. Preliminary reports suggest that the thieves targeted the donation boxes near the sanctum sanctorum, escaping before security could respond.

The theft has sparked a political firestorm, with opposition parties targeting the BJP over law and order in Uttar Pradesh. Congress spokesperson Pramod Tiwari said, "The theft at such a high-security site raises serious questions about the state government's competence." In response, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya dismissed the allegations as baseless, stating that the police are conducting a thorough investigation and the culprits will be apprehended soon.
