Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma Slams Congress for Assembly Walkout

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma launched a scathing attack on the Congress party in the Rajasthan Assembly on Saturday, accusing the opposition of lacking the courage to hear the truth and deliberately running away from meaningful debate. The confrontation occurred during Sharma's detailed reply on his government's two-year performance report, which was presented alongside the state budget and future action plan.

Congress MLAs Stage Walkout Amid Sloganeering

The political drama unfolded as Congress legislators staged a walkout approximately twenty minutes after Sharma began his address. "The public knows the truth about the past five years, which is why they did not participate in the debate," Sharma asserted, directly referencing the previous Congress administration led by Ashok Gehlot.

Sharma emphasized that his government had presented its comprehensive two-year "report card" to the Assembly for the first time, offering the opposition a genuine opportunity for substantive discussion about governance and development. He accused the previous Congress government of accomplishing "nothing" during its entire five-year tenure, despite numerous public promises.

Allegations of Unfulfilled Promises and Zero Work

The Chief Minister presented detailed allegations against the previous administration, claiming the Congress government had made "populist promises solely for vote bank politics" without following through on implementation. According to Sharma's presentation, the Congress government made 4,148 announcements during its term but left 2,208 (53%) completely unfulfilled.

"Congress government's performance is zero. What will they argue about?" Sharma questioned the Assembly. "The columns of their work were empty." He specifically highlighted the 2023-24 period under Gehlot's leadership, alleging that out of 1,426 announcements made that year, 1,142 (80%) remained unimplemented.

Sharma provided a laundry list of projects where he claimed "zero work" had been done, including:

  • Delivery of 2,000 pilot drones
  • Construction of four MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) centers
  • Development of five golf courses
  • Establishment of a Vishwakarma SME Tower

Current Government's Performance Claims

In stark contrast, Sharma presented statistics highlighting his own administration's achievements. He claimed his government made 2,719 budget announcements over two years, with 919 already completed and work actively underway on 1,531 additional projects. According to his calculations, this represents approximately 80% of announcements either completed or currently being implemented.

On the critical issue of employment, Sharma reported significant progress:

  1. Over one lakh government posts have been filled in the past two years
  2. Recruitment processes are currently underway for approximately 1.55 lakh additional positions
  3. A detailed calendar for 2026 has been released outlining plans for one lakh more government posts

Criticism of Late-Term Congress Schemes

The Chief Minister also targeted specific schemes introduced by the previous government during its final months, alleging negligible implementation. He singled out programs such as "Chiranjeevi Mamata Express" and "Shubh Lakshmi," claiming they were announced with great fanfare but saw minimal practical execution before the government's term ended.

Sharma's comprehensive presentation and the subsequent Congress walkout highlight the deepening political divisions in Rajasthan's legislative body as both parties position themselves for upcoming electoral battles. The exchange underscores the ongoing debate about governance accountability and the implementation of election promises in India's state politics.
