In a major crackdown under Operation Trinetra, Pratapgarh police have attached and frozen illegal properties belonging to notorious drug smuggler Asad Iqbal, which were allegedly acquired through proceeds from the drug trade. The action was taken following a detailed financial investigation that revealed Iqbal had amassed significant wealth through inter-state opium smuggling.
Case Details and Arrest
According to Rathanjana SHO Vijendra Singh, the case was registered on December 3, 2024, at Neemuch Cantt police station. Sub-Inspector Rajendra Singh Sisodiya of Madhya Pradesh and his team stopped and searched a suspicious car during a blockade, recovering 2.8 kg of illegal opium from Asad Iqbal, a resident of village Panmodi in Pratapgarh district. A case under the NDPS Act was registered, and the accused was sent to judicial custody.
Financial Investigation
Following the arrest, a special team of Pratapgarh police was formed under the guidance of Superintendent of Police B. Aditya to conduct a thorough financial investigation into Iqbal's alleged illegal earnings. The team identified both movable and immovable properties linked to the accused. The investigation revealed that Iqbal had earned crores of rupees through long-running inter-state smuggling of opium and doda-chura.
Properties Attached
Police said that using the alleged proceeds from drug smuggling, the accused constructed a luxurious mansion in his ancestral village, Panmodi. The mansion has a current market value of approximately Rs 70 lakh. Additionally, Iqbal purchased a car in his own name, valued at around Rs 10 lakh. The total value of the attached properties stands at Rs 80 lakh.
Habitual Offender
Asad Iqbal is a habitual drug smuggler with a long criminal record. Six serious cases under the NDPS Act have been registered against him in different districts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The police continue to investigate his network and possible accomplices.
This action sends a strong message against drug trafficking and the illegal accumulation of wealth through criminal activities. The Pratapgarh police have vowed to continue such operations to dismantle drug networks in the region.
