Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asserted that the first phase of polling in West Bengal marks the beginning of the end for the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government's 'jungle raj'. Addressing a rally in Cooch Behar, Modi said the people of the state have decided to uproot the TMC's misrule.
Modi's Attack on TMC
The Prime Minister accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of promoting violence, corruption, and nepotism. He said the TMC has turned West Bengal into a 'jungle raj' where criminals have a free run. 'The first phase of polling is the beginning of the end for TMC's jungle raj. People are fed up with the lawlessness and are ready for change,' Modi said.
Appeal to Voters
Modi urged voters to support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and ensure a double-engine government for the state's development. He highlighted the central government's schemes and said West Bengal has been deprived of benefits due to the TMC's obstructionist attitude.
The first phase of polling covers 30 assembly constituencies in five districts. Voting is underway amid tight security. The Election Commission has deployed central forces to ensure free and fair elections.
TMC's Response
The TMC dismissed Modi's allegations, accusing the BJP of trying to destabilize the state. Senior TMC leader and state minister Partha Chatterjee said, 'The people of West Bengal will reject the BJP's divisive politics and vote for development under Mamata Banerjee's leadership.'
The assembly elections in West Bengal are being held in eight phases. The results will be announced on May 2.
