Karnataka CM Decision Rests With Congress High Command: Parameshwara
Parameshwara: Karnataka CM call is Congress high command's

Karnataka's Home Minister, Dr. G Parameshwara, stated on Thursday that any decision regarding the state's Chief Ministership is the sole prerogative of the Congress party's high command. This statement comes amid ongoing speculation and internal discussions within the Karnataka Congress unit about a potential leadership change as the government completes half its term.

Clarifying Stance on Leadership Speculation

Addressing the media in Bengaluru, Parameshwara firmly denied any personal involvement in lobbying for the top post. He clarified that he has not formed any team or instructed supporters to campaign for him. "There is no 'my team'. Some people, friends or well-wishers, may express their views on their own," the Home Minister explained. He acknowledged that such sentiments are sometimes voiced during his district visits but emphasized that the final authority rests with the party leadership in Delhi.

His remarks highlight the simmering political dynamics within the state's ruling party. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and Home Minister G Parameshwara are widely seen as the central figures in this unfolding political narrative, with the chief minister's post being a key point of contention.

Focus on Law, Order, and Police Welfare

Shifting focus to his ministerial responsibilities, Parameshwara detailed several administrative and security updates. He began by extending New Year 2026 greetings to Karnataka's citizens on behalf of himself and the state police force, expressing his commitment to maintaining peace and exemplary law and order.

Reviewing the security for the recent New Year celebrations, particularly in Bengaluru, he described the task as challenging but meticulously planned. "We deployed nearly 20,000 police personnel," Parameshwara revealed. He noted his personal oversight from the command centre, monitoring situations and issuing instructions for large gatherings, ultimately leading to peaceful and safe celebrations.

On the administrative front, the minister announced a significant move for police personnel welfare. The state government has cleared long-pending promotions, completing more than 30 advancements. These include officers moving from Superintendent of Police (SP) to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and from DIG to Inspector General (IG) ranks.

Central Funds and Security Review

Parameshwara also welcomed a major financial decision from the central government. The Centre's allocation of Rs 352 crores for police modernisation in Karnataka was hailed as a significant development. "We have been requesting the Government of India for modernisation funds for a long time, and for the first time, we have received around Rs 350 crore," he stated, underscoring the importance of this infusion for upgrading police infrastructure and capabilities.

Earlier on Thursday, senior police officials met with the Home Minister at his Bengaluru residence to conduct a comprehensive review of the state's overall law and order situation and security preparedness. This meeting underscores the ongoing administrative focus amidst the political backdrop.
