AIADMK Leader Levels Serious Corruption Allegations Against DMK Government
In a fiery political rally at Ambattur in Chennai, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami launched a blistering attack on the ruling DMK government, accusing Chief Minister M K Stalin and his cabinet ministers of engaging in large-scale corruption. The allegations mark a significant escalation in the ongoing political confrontation between the two major Tamil Nadu parties.
Hawala Transactions and Illicit Fund Transfers Alleged
Palaniswami made the explosive claim that illicit funds were being routed abroad through hawala channels by members of the current administration. Speaking as part of his 'Makkalai Kappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom' campaign, the opposition leader vowed that if the AIADMK returns to power, they would trace and recover all ill-gotten wealth accumulated by ministers.
"AIADMK will return to power. We will seize the hawala money and bring it back to the state to finance schemes for people," Palaniswami declared to the gathered crowd. He emphasized that recovered funds would be redirected toward public welfare initiatives benefiting Tamil Nadu citizens.
Judicial Developments and Political Counterattacks
The AIADMK leader pointed to recent judicial developments, specifically mentioning the Madras High Court's direction to register a case based on an Enforcement Directorate report alleging corruption in the municipal administration department. This department is headed by Minister K N Nehru, a senior DMK figure.
Palaniswami suggested that Chief Minister Stalin was "blabbering out of fear" following the High Court order against his cabinet colleague. This comment came in response to Stalin having earlier labeled Palaniswami "a traitor" during a public meeting in Madurai.
"Who is the traitor? It is you and your family that betrayed the people of the state," Palaniswami countered, directly challenging the Chief Minister's characterization.
Assembly Absences and Financial Management Criticisms
Further intensifying his critique, Palaniswami highlighted Stalin's absence from the legislative assembly when the AIADMK leader spoke for two-and-a-half hours about the interim budget on Thursday. "He ran away and hid instead of replying to my questions because he had no answers," Palaniswami alleged, suggesting the Chief Minister was avoiding accountability.
The opposition leader reiterated his longstanding charge about the state's financial management, claiming the DMK government has borrowed approximately 5.50 lakh crore over the past five years. According to Palaniswami, this borrowing spree has increased Tamil Nadu's debt from 4.85 lakh crore in 2021 to more than 10 lakh crore currently.
"TN was now among the leading states in terms of borrowings, a burden that would ultimately fall on people," he warned, expressing concern about the financial legacy being created for future generations.
Development Failures and Governance Concerns
Despite what he characterized as unprecedented borrowing, Palaniswami accused the current administration of failing to implement meaningful development schemes. He alleged that Chief Minister Stalin was exploiting the state exchequer primarily for personal publicity and constructing a false narrative of progress.
Additionally, the AIADMK general secretary criticized the government on law and order concerns, specifically noting the prolonged absence of a permanent Director General of Police in Tamil Nadu. This vacancy, he suggested, reflected broader governance deficiencies within the DMK administration.
The allegations and counter-allegations between the two political heavyweights signal intensifying political hostilities as Tamil Nadu prepares for future electoral contests, with corruption allegations and financial management emerging as central battleground issues.
