Odisha Vigilance Arrests Revenue Inspector for Accepting Rs 30,000 Bribe in Land Mutation Case

In a significant crackdown on corruption, the Odisha vigilance department on Sunday arrested a revenue inspector posted in Cuttack district. The official was apprehended while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 in exchange for submitting a favourable report in a land mutation case.

Details of the Bribery Trap

The revenue inspector, serving under the Tangi-Choudwar tehsil, was caught red-handed in his office while taking the bribe from a landowner. According to vigilance officials, the complainant had applied online on March 10 for the conversion of his patta land into homestead land, as per the guidelines of the revenue and disaster management department.

However, the inspector allegedly demanded Rs 30,000 to furnish a positive report in the mutation case and threatened to withhold the document if the payment was not made. Unable to bear the pressure, the landowner approached the state vigilance, which promptly laid a trap.

Recovery and Evidence

The vigilance team successfully nabbed the inspector during the transaction. The entire bribe amount of Rs 30,000 was recovered and seized from his possession in the presence of witnesses. To confirm the handling of the tainted money, chemical tests were conducted on his hand and pant pocket wash, which yielded positive results.

This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by authorities to combat corruption in land-related matters, ensuring transparency and justice for citizens.
