Noida: Search for 4-Year-Old Boy in Ganga Canal Called Off After 3 Days

In a tragic development, rescue teams on Monday called off the search operation for a four-year-old boy who slipped into the Ganga canal at Daularajpur village in Dankaur, Noida. The decision came after three exhaustive days of scanning the waterway, with officials confirming that no trace of the child, identified as Adnan, was found.

Details of the Incident and Rescue Efforts

The incident occurred around 7 pm on Friday when Adnan was playing near the edge of the canal, approximately 200 meters away from his home. He accidentally fell into the water, prompting immediate alarm. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), alongside local police and professional divers, swiftly launched a comprehensive rescue mission.

Munendra Singh, the in-charge of Dankaur police station, stated that specialized teams conducted an intensive three-day operation. Divers meticulously searched several kilometers downstream, coordinating closely with irrigation authorities to manage water flow and access. The operation faced significant challenges due to the canal's strong current and considerable depth, which hampered visibility and movement.

Equipment and techniques deployed included deep diving gear and advanced communication sets to thoroughly scan the underwater environment. Despite these efforts, no breakthrough was achieved, leading to the formal withdrawal of rescue activities.

Family's Anguish and Community Response

With the rescue operation concluded, Adnan's family is now left in a state of profound uncertainty and grief. His father, Israr, who works as a shuttering contractor, recounted his desperate attempts to find his son. "I traveled 60 to 70 kilometers ahead, up to Bulandshahr, searching along the canal, but I could not find my boy," he said. "We believe he may have been swept away across district boundaries."

The past three days have been tense and heartbreaking for the residents of Daularajpur village. Many villagers gathered daily along the canal bank, watching the divers at work and praying for a miracle. The community's collective hope has now turned to sorrow as the search ends without success.

Broader Implications and Safety Concerns

This incident highlights ongoing safety concerns regarding canals in residential areas, particularly for young children. The Ganga canal's powerful currents and depth pose persistent risks, underscoring the need for enhanced preventive measures, such as better fencing, warning signs, and public awareness campaigns about water safety.

While the formal rescue efforts have ceased, the emotional toll on Adnan's family and the local community remains immense. Authorities have advised vigilance and caution near water bodies to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
