CM Stalin to Inaugurate Coimbatore's 34th Police Station in Neelambur on Dec 22
New Neelambur Police Station in Coimbatore Inaugurated Dec 22

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin is set to inaugurate a crucial new police station for Coimbatore district through a video conference on Friday, December 22. The establishment, named the Neelambur police station, will immediately begin operations from a temporary facility to address pressing law and order needs in the fast-developing region.

Temporary Setup and Permanent Plans

Officials confirmed that the Neelambur police station will initially function from a community hall located in Arasur. This interim arrangement will remain in place until a dedicated building is constructed for the force. The government has already identified potential sites for the permanent structure.

"We have shortlisted two sites each in Arasur and Neelambur for constructing the police station building. The final location will be decided and announced by the government in due course," stated an official involved in the process. The move to a permanent building will follow the completion of necessary administrative and construction procedures.

Jurisdiction and Staffing for the 34th Station

This new station marks a significant expansion for the Coimbatore Rural Police, becoming its 34th unit. It will be created by carving out major portions from the existing jurisdictions of the Sulur and Kovilpalayam police stations. A substantial area, comprising seven mother villages and 24 hamlet villages, will now fall under the purview of the Neelambur police.

To manage this new jurisdiction effectively, a team of 50 police personnel has been sanctioned. The contingent will be led by an Inspector of Police and will include three Sub-Inspectors among its ranks, ensuring adequate manpower for patrols, investigations, and public interface from day one.

Addressing the Need for Local Policing

The inauguration culminates a long-pending demand to improve police accessibility in Neelambur, Arasur, and surrounding areas. These regions have witnessed rapid residential growth, leading to increased population density and associated civic challenges. Previously, the Sulur police station was responsible for these areas, requiring its personnel to travel extensive distances—often between 15 to 18 kilometers—to respond to incidents.

This geographical challenge led to delays in response times and was linked to frequent reports of crime from Neelambur. Recognizing the operational hurdle and public need, the Coimbatore Rural Police had submitted multiple proposals to the state government seeking sanction for a dedicated police station. The government's recent approval and swift action to inaugurate the station aim to bridge this security gap and provide hyper-local policing.

The establishment of the Neelambur police station is expected to enhance crime prevention, accelerate response times, and provide a greater sense of security to residents in one of Coimbatore's most dynamically expanding corridors.
