Nagpur's Kalyaneshwar Temple and Amravati's Hanuman Gadhi Set for Major Tourism Development

In a significant move to boost religious tourism in Maharashtra, the state government has approved redevelopment plans for two key temple sites. The historic Kalyaneshwar temple in Nagpur and the Hanuman Gadhi in Amravati are poised to undergo extensive upgrades aimed at enhancing visitor experience and infrastructure.

Kalyaneshwar Temple in Nagpur to Get Parking and Redevelopment

The Kalyaneshwar temple, located in the Mahal area of Nagpur, one of the city's oldest localities, will be redeveloped with improved facilities. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive development plan, with a focus on creating a systematic parking arrangement. Currently, the temple lacks dedicated parking, often causing congestion on the road in front of the shrine during peak hours and special occasions. The redevelopment aims to accommodate a large number of vehicles, alleviating traffic issues and improving accessibility for pilgrims.

Rs 121-Crore Plan for Hanuman Gadhi in Amravati

Simultaneously, a Rs 121-crore tourism development plan has been approved for the Hanuman Gadhi site in Amravati. This project will span 17,671 square metres and include multiple facilities for visitors and pilgrims. Key features of the plan include:

  • A Yagya Mandap modelled on the lines of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya
  • An amphitheatre for cultural events
  • A food mall and craft centre
  • An akhara for physical activities
  • A Mahaprasad hall and multipurpose hall
  • A Hanuman gallery showcasing religious artifacts
  • Divyang-friendly approach roads and rainwater harvesting facilities
  • Infrastructure such as a main entrance gate, protective boundary wall, and laser show installation

Government Directives and Funding Assurance

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the importance of quality execution and timely completion. He directed officials to ensure that tourist facilities at Hanuman Gadhi are completed first, with a priority on the construction of the Hanuman idol, which is expected to be the central attraction of the site. Fadnavis assured that there will be no shortage of funds for the project and instructed officials to adhere to the prescribed timeline.

The decisions were taken at a meeting of the apex committee held at Vidhan Bhavan to review tourism development proposals for both temple sites. Ministers Jayakumar Gore and Ashish Jaiswal, along with MLAs Pratap Adsad, Pravin Datke, and Ravi Rana, were present at the meeting, underscoring the government's commitment to these initiatives.

Impact on Local Tourism and Infrastructure

These redevelopment projects are expected to significantly enhance the tourism appeal of Nagpur and Amravati. By addressing infrastructure gaps like parking at Kalyaneshwar temple and adding modern amenities at Hanuman Gadhi, the government aims to attract more pilgrims and boost local economies. The inclusion of facilities such as the Yagya Mandap and laser shows aligns with efforts to create immersive religious experiences, while divyang-friendly features ensure accessibility for all visitors.

With these plans in motion, Maharashtra continues to invest in its cultural and religious heritage, promoting sustainable tourism development across the state.
