Nagpur Police Extern 146 Ahead of NMC Polls

Nagpur police have taken strong preventive action ahead of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation elections. They have externed 146 individuals identified as potential troublemakers from the city. This move aims to ensure peaceful polling and vote counting processes.

Externment Details and Locations

Police externed these individuals under Section 163(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The externment order lasts for ten days. Authorities targeted four specific police station areas in this operation.

Breakdown by Police Station

  • Yashodhara Nagar police station: 60 individuals externed
  • Kalmana police station: 25 individuals externed
  • Pardi police station: 24 individuals externed
  • Wathoda police station: 37 individuals externed

Police records show these externed individuals have previous cases against them. These cases involve offences against persons and property. Many also face charges related to illegal liquor trade activities.

Special Arrangements for Polling Day

The externed individuals will receive a temporary exception on polling day. They can remain in their respective areas on January 15 to cast their votes. This allowance ensures they can exercise their democratic franchise without disruption.

However, strict restrictions will apply immediately after voting concludes. All externed persons must stay away from their concerned police station limits during the counting period. This ban remains effective from January 16 through January 18.

Separate Action Against Notorious Criminal

In a parallel development, police detained a known history-sheeter under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act. The detained individual is Manoj Dongre, who uses multiple aliases including Manya and Chhatri.

Dongre, aged 35, faces serious criminal charges across multiple police jurisdictions. His criminal record includes 39 registered cases spanning several areas of Nagpur.

Charges and Locations

Dongre's cases involve grave offences that threaten public safety. The charges against him include:

  1. Attempted murder cases
  2. Robbery and theft incidents
  3. Assault on persons
  4. Illegal possession of firearms
  5. Possession of deadly weapons

These criminal activities occurred across various Nagpur localities. Affected areas include Kapil Nagar, Jaripatka, Koradi, and Wadi. Police consider his detention crucial for maintaining law and order during the election period.

Nagpur police emphasize these actions form part of comprehensive security preparations. Their goal is to prevent any possible disturbance during the crucial election phases. The department remains vigilant as the city approaches both polling and counting days.
