Authorities in Mysuru are rolling out extensive preparations to manage a massive influx of devotees expected at the famous Chamundi Hill during the New Year period. District Collector G Lakshmikantha Reddy has issued a series of directives to ensure a smooth and safe experience for all visitors.
Comprehensive Crowd and Traffic Management Plan
With a significant surge in footfall anticipated on New Year's Day, January 1, followed by the Lalita Sahastranama programme on January 2 and the subsequent weekend, the administration is leaving no stone unturned. The DC has specifically instructed officials to increase the number of queue lines to prevent dangerous overcrowding and facilitate orderly darshan for pilgrims.
To tackle the expected vehicular chaos, a strict plan for traffic movement and parking has been formulated. In a notable move, the DC stated that even vehicles belonging to dignitaries should be parked near the Mahishasura statue if crowding intensifies. From that point, visitors will be ferried to the hilltop using battery-operated vehicles to reduce congestion on the narrow hill road.
Enhanced Facilities for Devotee Comfort and Safety
The health and convenience of the public are top priorities in the plan. The Mysuru city division of KSRTC has been directed to operate additional bus trips to provide affordable and efficient public transport options. For on-site emergencies, the health department has been asked to keep two ambulances on standby at the location.
Recognizing basic needs, the administration will set up drinking water facilities at multiple points along the hill. Furthermore, additional sanitation staff will be deployed to maintain cleanliness throughout the busy period. A key instruction from the DC involves the quality of food served. Officials have been told to strictly check the quality of food items and prasadam, including that prepared at the Dasoha Bhavan, to ensure devotees' well-being.

DC G Lakshmikantha Reddy has cautioned all departments to remain extra vigilant to prevent any untoward incidents. The coordinated effort spans multiple agencies, including police, transport, health, and municipal departments, aiming for a seamless and spiritually fulfilling experience for the thousands expected to seek blessings at the iconic hill temple as the new year begins.
