Congress MLC Satej Patil Declares MVA Alliance for Key Cooperative Elections in Kolhapur

In a significant political development, Congress MLC Satej Patil has announced that the upcoming elections for the Kolhapur Jilha Dudh Utpadak Sangh, popularly known as Gokul Dairy, and the Kolhapur District Central Cooperative Bank (KDCC) will be contested under the banner of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. This statement was made during a function organized by the Kolhapur Congress Committee to felicitate newly-elected members of the zilla parishad and panchayat samitis.

Focus on Rural and Farmer Welfare

Patil emphasized the critical role these institutions play in serving rural communities and farmers. "Both Gokul and KDCC are vital for rural people and farmers, and to ensure these institutions are well-run and continue to fulfill their purpose, we are prepared for the battle," he stated. He outlined the election timeline, noting that preparations for Gokul Dairy's election will commence within one month, while the KDCC election is scheduled for December.

Congress Extends Support to NCP

In his address, Patil expressed Congress's readiness to support the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which emerged as the single largest party in recent local elections. He hinted at internal discord within the rival Mahayuti alliance, referencing a recent statement by a BJP Rajya Sabha MP about the BJP playing a "big brother" role in the alliance at the zilla parishad level. "This statement did not sit well with the NCP," Patil remarked, suggesting tensions within the opposition camp.

Observations on Opposition Dynamics

Patil claimed to have closely monitored developments in the opposing alliance. "I have keenly observed what is happening in the opposite camp. They are struggling to decide who is the big brother and who is the smaller brother," he said. He further indicated that if the NCP feels mistreated within Mahayuti, Congress is willing to acknowledge the NCP as the senior partner in the zilla parishad. "If NCP politicians are ready, then Congress is willing to accept NCP as the big brother in ZP," he added, highlighting potential shifts in local political alignments.

This announcement underscores the MVA's strategic focus on cooperative institutions, which are pivotal for agricultural and rural economies in the region. The upcoming elections are poised to be a key battleground, reflecting broader political realignments and alliances in Maharashtra's cooperative sector.
