Mumbai BMC Election 2026 Vote Counting Set for Friday Morning
The crucial vote counting for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2026 will commence at 10 AM on Friday, January 16. This significant event will unfold simultaneously across 23 designated counting centres spread throughout the city.
Massive Deployment of Personnel and Training
Civic officials have mobilised a substantial workforce for the exercise. A total of 2,299 personnel have been deployed to manage the counting process. All these staff members have received prior training to ensure the entire operation runs smoothly and with maximum efficiency.
Comprehensive Security and Infrastructure Arrangements
The BMC has implemented elaborate arrangements to maintain security, manage traffic, and uphold law and order during the counting. Officials have appointed 23 Returning Officers, each responsible for overseeing the counting in the city's 227 electoral wards.
Strong rooms and the final counting venues have been established under the jurisdiction of these officers. Every location has secured the necessary clearances from the Public Works Department and the local police authorities.
High-Level Review of Preparations
On Thursday, BMC chief and District Election Officer Bhushan Gagrani conducted a thorough review of the counting preparations. He was accompanied by senior civic officials, including Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Dr. Ashwini Joshi.
During this review, the team assessed multiple critical aspects. They examined the layout of the counting centres, table planning, and staff deployment. The assessment also covered CCTV surveillance systems and the availability of essential facilities like fire safety equipment and medical aid.
Additional Measures for Smooth Conduct
Authorities have put several additional plans in place. These include specific traffic regulation strategies and organised parking arrangements at all counting centres. Separate enclosures have been created for media personnel to facilitate their work.
To ensure accuracy and transparency in the results, officials will employ a computerised system for tabulation and declaration. This modern approach aims to streamline the process and minimise errors.
Strict Entry Protocol and Coordination
Entry into the counting centres will be strictly regulated. Only authorised individuals will gain access. This group includes the candidates themselves, their officially appointed representatives, and accredited media personnel. Everyone must carry identity cards issued specifically by the election department.
Officials have strengthened coordination with the police department. This enhanced collaboration aims to ensure the entire counting process concludes peacefully and within the scheduled timeframe, maintaining public order throughout the day.
