MP Minister Sparks Row Over RSS Affiliation Claims

Minister’s Remark Triggers Controversy

Madhya Pradesh minister Kailash Vijayvargiya on Friday sparked a political storm by claiming that government officials are now rushing to display their affiliation with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) after the BJP came to power in the state. Speaking at an event, he said the RSS has become "too crowded" due to a shortage of "good people."

The comments, made during a public gathering, drew sharp reactions from opposition parties, who accused the minister of demeaning the bureaucracy and exposing the BJP’s hidden agenda. The Congress demanded an apology, stating that officials should be neutral and not forced to declare ideological affiliations.

What the Minister Said

According to PTI, Vijayvargiya remarked, "After the BJP government was formed, officials are now racing to show their RSS connection. The RSS has become so crowded that there is a shortage of good people." He did not name any specific officials but suggested that many are eager to prove their loyalty to the Sangh to gain favor.

The minister, a senior BJP leader, is known for his blunt statements. He has previously made controversial remarks on various issues. His latest comment comes amidst ongoing debates about the growing influence of the RSS in government appointments and policy decisions.

Political Reactions

The Congress party condemned the statement, with state spokesperson Narendra Saluja saying, "This exposes the BJP’s design to saffronise the bureaucracy. Officials must remain apolitical. Vijayvargiya should apologize for insulting the administrative system." The Aam Aadmi Party also criticized the remark, calling it "an admission of the RSS's stranglehold on the government."

BJP leaders, however, downplayed the controversy, stating that Vijayvargiya was merely highlighting the natural affinity of officials towards the RSS, which they said is a cultural organization. State BJP spokesperson Rajneesh Agrawal said, "There is nothing wrong in officials having a connection with the RSS. It is a patriotic organization."

Impact and Context

The remark has reignited discussions about the relationship between the BJP and the RSS, its ideological parent. Critics argue that the RSS’s influence has increased significantly since the BJP came to power at the center and in many states. This incident adds to a series of statements by BJP leaders that have drawn attention to the intertwining of party and Sangh.

As of now, Vijayvargiya has not issued any clarification or apology. The opposition plans to raise the matter in the upcoming state assembly session. The controversy is likely to intensify the political debate over transparency and neutrality in the bureaucracy.
