In a significant development for the Mohali Assembly constituency, MLA Kulwant Singh laid the foundation stone for the construction of five roads on Thursday, January 22, 2016. The projects, with an estimated cost of around Rs 1.25 crore, are set to enhance connectivity and infrastructure in the region.
Details of the Road Projects
Addressing a gathering during the ceremony, Kulwant Singh outlined the specific roads included in this initiative. The works encompass the phirni (village peripheral road) of Balyali village and the phirni of Ballo Majra village, which is also being developed as an approach road from the main thoroughfare to the Gurdwara Sahib. Additionally, roads in Raipur village, located on the Kharar–Chandigarh road, and Tadauli village are part of this comprehensive plan. The MLA emphasized that all these projects are scheduled for completion within a six-month timeframe, promising timely benefits for residents.
Broader Infrastructure Developments in Mohali
Kulwant Singh highlighted that this is part of a larger push to improve infrastructure across the Mohali Assembly constituency. He informed attendees that out of the total 60 villages in the area, construction work on nearly 30 roads has already commenced. As an example of this commitment, he mentioned a road in Balongi that had remained incomplete for two decades, which was swiftly constructed after the formation of the current government. "We are dedicated to resolving long-standing issues and ensuring that basic infrastructure reaches every corner of our villages," the MLA stated, underscoring his administration's focus on grassroots development.
Welfare Initiatives Announced
Beyond infrastructure, Kulwant Singh used the occasion to announce key welfare measures for Punjab's residents. He revealed the launch of a health insurance scheme providing coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh, designed to address the healthcare needs of the state's population. "Under this scheme, beneficiary cards will be issued free of cost, and treatment up to Rs 10 lakh will be completely free," he explained. Furthermore, starting from April, women in Punjab will begin receiving Rs 1,100 per month directly into their bank accounts, a move aimed at empowering female citizens financially.
Addressing Traffic Concerns
In response to local traffic issues, particularly in Balongi, Kulwant Singh announced plans to construct another bridge to alleviate congestion and ensure smoother commuter movement. This initiative reflects a proactive approach to urban planning and public convenience in the growing constituency.
