Kerala MLA Announces Comprehensive Support for Family of Wild Boar Attack Victim
In a compassionate response to a tragic incident, P S Supal, the MLA representing the Punalur assembly constituency in Kerala, has announced a comprehensive package of support for the family of a man killed in a wild boar attack last Friday. The measures include land allocation, financial compensation, and employment assistance to help the bereaved family cope with their loss.
Land Allocation and Financial Relief Details
The MLA stated that the family of the deceased will be provided with land under the 'Landless Punalur' project, specifically within the Kallada Irrigation Project area, to construct a house. This initiative aims to offer long-term stability to the family following the sudden tragedy.
In terms of immediate financial support, the government will provide Rs 10 lakh as relief. Additionally, MLA Supal has pledged to request an additional sanction of Rs 5 lakh as further compensation, bringing the total potential financial aid to Rs 15 lakh. The forest department has also been directed to extend Rs 10,000 to cover postmortem rituals, ensuring that the family receives assistance for funeral expenses.
Employment Assistance and Incident Background
Steps are being taken to provide employment to a family member, as confirmed by the MLA. This move is intended to offer economic security and help the family rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the attack.
The victim, identified as Raghunathan Pillai, a 55-year-old plantation worker, was killed around 11 am at the Chaliyakkara AVT Estate near Karavoor. He was on his way to a junction to buy breakfast when the wild boar attacked him near an anganwadi center. Despite being rushed to Punalur Taluk Hospital by locals, Pillai succumbed to his injuries.
Forest Department's Response and Safety Measures
Following the incident, the forest department's Rapid Response team inspected the area to assess the situation. As a safety measure, a shooter will be deputed to eliminate the wild boar responsible for the attack, aiming to prevent further such incidents in the locality.
This tragic event highlights the ongoing challenges of human-wildlife conflict in Kerala, prompting swift governmental action to support affected families and address safety concerns.
