Mizoram Chief Secretary Directs Strict Monitoring of Essential Commodities
In a decisive move to safeguard public welfare, Mizoram Chief Secretary Khili Ram Meena has issued a directive to all deputy commissioners across the state, mandating rigorous vigilance over stock levels and the on-ground distribution of essential commodities. This initiative specifically targets LPG and petroleum products, aiming to curb illegal activities and ensure seamless availability for residents.
Preventing Black Marketing and Hoarding
The primary objective of this directive is to prevent black marketing, hoarding, and any unauthorized diversion of supplies. Meena emphasized that district authorities must take firm action against violators under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, to maintain market integrity and protect consumers from exploitation.
He highlighted that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is actively monitoring LPG and petroleum supply on a national scale, with directives issued to all states for continuous supervision to avert potential shortages. This aligns with a recent high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where chief ministers and chief secretaries discussed the critical need for close monitoring of supply and distribution systems.
Reassurance on Adequate Stocks
Reassuring the public, Meena stated that there is an adequate stock of LPG and petroleum products across Mizoram, urging citizens to avoid panic. He underscored that the state's supply chain remains robust, supported by coordinated efforts at both state and national levels to maintain stability.
Recent Enforcement Action in Lunglei
In a related development, police officials in south Mizoram's Lunglei town seized a significant quantity of fuel on Saturday. At the Mizofed filling station, authorities confiscated 1,600 litres of petrol and 400 litres of diesel while they were being loaded into trucks in oil drums. The alleged intention was to transport these supplies to Myanmar, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat illegal diversion and smuggling activities.
This enforcement action underscores the state's commitment to Meena's directives, demonstrating proactive measures to secure essential commodities and uphold legal standards. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges in border regions and the importance of stringent oversight.
Overall, Mizoram's approach reflects a broader strategy to ensure essential commodity security, leveraging local enforcement and national coordination to address potential disruptions and maintain public trust.
