A crane involved in Namma Metro construction toppled early Thursday morning on Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road. The incident happened near the Agara flyover. Workers were lifting a heavy portal beam when the crane overturned.
How the Accident Happened
The crane lost balance at 3:45 AM. A BMRCL official explained the situation. One of the crane's outriggers failed during the operation. The machine was loading a steel portal beam onto a trailer at that moment.
Immediate Response and Traffic Impact
Police quickly diverted vehicles near the accident site as a safety measure. This action caused slow-moving traffic on the stretch during morning hours. Commuters experienced noticeable delays.
Dhruv NK, a tech professional, shared his experience. "I usually find the area clear around 7-7:30 AM," he said. "Today I spotted a tower-like structure and realized an accident occurred. Some congestion appeared, though it wasn't severe. I reached my office about five to ten minutes late. Many drivers slowed down to look and take pictures, which worsened the traffic situation."
Recovery Operations
Workers brought two additional cranes to the site. They used these machines to right the overturned crane. The entire area was cleared by 2 PM on Thursday.
Traffic Management
A senior officer from HSR Layout traffic police station provided context. Vehicular movement remained largely unaffected overall. Existing traffic restrictions were already in place along 14th Main road due to ongoing roadwork. These measures helped manage the situation.
No casualties were reported from the incident. Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the crane's failure.
