In an alleged attempt to grab tenanted comunidade land located in a green forest patch at Mandur, unidentified workers have erected a metal gate after demolishing a gadga wall at the site.
Complaint and Action
Following a complaint filed by the tenant, Ramkrishna Naik of Neura, alleging trespass into his property, the Azossim-Mandur panchayat has issued a stop work order and a showcause notice to an unidentified person.
Political Intervention
The brazen activity of erecting the gate on Naik’s tenanted property created a buzz in the area. St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar visited the spot along with government officials.
“Naik is a tenant in this property belonging to the Mandur comunidade. There was a fire here, and trees had been cut two years ago,” Borkar said. He suspected it to be a land-grabbing attempt and noted that the security staff at the site lacked proper identity cards.
Activist Concerns
Activist Ramrao Wagh, who also visited the spot, expressed concerns that this activity might be part of a larger plan. “The erection of a metal gate could be to create plots and change the land use to settlement,” he said.
The panchayat has directed the unidentified person to produce construction permissions and other approvals within a specified period.
