Meghalaya Government Celebrates Eight-Year Milestone with Vision 2032 Event
On Friday, a significant function titled "Our Magnificent Meghalaya | Vision 2032" was held at the PA Sangma Sports Complex in Tura, Shillong, to commemorate eight years of the National People's Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government. The event served as a platform to reflect on the state's journey and outline future aspirations under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
Chief Minister Highlights Economic Achievements and Challenges
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who has become the longest-serving chief minister in Meghalaya's history since assuming office on March 6, 2018, addressed the gathering. He emphasized the economic progress achieved during his tenure, noting that the journey has been fraught with challenges and difficulties. "Our path has often been painful and certainly not easy," Sangma stated, "but through the unwavering love and support of our citizens, we have managed to overcome most of these obstacles."
He shared a poignant moment, recalling a letter from the Prime Minister on Meghalaya Day (January 21), which acknowledged the state's remarkable economic transformation and commended its fiscal discipline alongside sustained growth. Sangma stressed that while infrastructure development remains crucial, true progress is measured by improvements in people's lives. He described the anniversary as a "celebration of service" to the people and called for unity among all communities. "Hatred between tribes or communities can never be the solution," he asserted. "Unity has always been our strength, and we must continue to work together in a spirit of harmony to propel our state forward."
Substantial Financial Assistance Distributed to Citizens
In a major highlight of the event, financial assistance totaling approximately Rs 220 crore was distributed under various government schemes. This included the release of the CM's Scholarship Scheme for the academic year 2025-26, amounting to over Rs 5 crore and benefiting 98,751 students. Additionally, a uniform grant of more than Rs 3 crore was provided through direct benefit transfer to 50,000 students, underscoring the government's commitment to education and welfare.
The function not only celebrated past achievements but also set the stage for Meghalaya's future, with Vision 2032 aiming to build on the foundations laid over the past eight years. As the state moves forward, the emphasis remains on inclusive growth, community cohesion, and continued economic advancement under the MDA government's stewardship.
