Vision 2032 Takes Center Stage

Day two of the retreat brought together Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, his cabinet ministers, and senior government officials. They engaged in detailed deliberations about the '10 Opportunities' outlined in Vision 2032. This vision aims to completely transform the economic landscape of Meghalaya.

Chief Minister Sangma clearly outlined the development trajectory for the state. He emphasized the critical need to unlock opportunities across several key sectors. These include tourism, agriculture, and private sector investment. Sangma stressed that these areas will drive the state's growth in coming years.

Ambitious Economic Targets

The Chief Minister, who also holds the finance portfolio, reiterated the government's commitment to specific economic goals. The administration aims to achieve a $10 billion economy by 2028. They plan to scale this to $16 billion by 2032. The most ambitious target is reaching a $100 billion economy by 2047.

Tourism and Employment Generation

The tourism, arts and culture department presented a comprehensive roadmap during the retreat. Their plan aims to generate 1.25 lakh employment opportunities by 2028. A specific target was set to develop 3,000 units by 2028 under the CM Meghalaya Homestay Mission 2025. This initiative offers a substantial 70% financial subsidy to participants.

Agricultural Development Focus

Participants discussed the formulation of the Meghalaya Agriculture Policy 2026 as a key priority. This policy is envisioned to provide a comprehensive roadmap for sustainable agricultural growth across the state. Officials also highlighted the promotion of agro-tourism as an emerging opportunity. This approach could significantly diversify rural incomes in Meghalaya.

Livestock Health and Sports Development

The animal husbandry and veterinary department will develop a detailed contingency plan. This plan includes establishing 171 rapid response teams to closely monitor livestock health. Chief Minister Sangma highlighted this sector's potential to boost local production significantly.

Discussions also centered on the Sports Action Plan launched in 2025. This plan focuses on nurturing athletes across the state. Officials noted that 303 projects worth over Rs 2,000 crore are currently underway. These projects aim to prepare Meghalaya for hosting the 2027 National Games.

The Cabinet Retreat concluded with a renewed commitment to implementing these strategic initiatives. Government officials expressed confidence that these measures will propel Meghalaya toward its ambitious economic targets.
