Massive Security Arrangements for Maghi Festivities in Muktsar

As the three-day Maghi festivities commenced in Muktsar on Tuesday, authorities implemented extensive security measures to manage the large influx of devotees. The town was divided into seven sectors, with nearly 6000 police personnel deployed for security and traffic management.

Commemorating the Martyrs

Tens of thousands of devotees converge in Muktsar to commemorate the martyrdom of the 40 liberated ones, known as Chali Mukte. They pay obeisance at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib during these three days, with the main day being January 14, marking the start of the month of Magh. Political parties also organize conferences on this day, attracting thousands of attendees.

High-Level Security Review

Special DGP Arpit Shukla, accompanied by DIG Faridkot Range Nilambari Jagdale and SSP Sri Muktsar Sahib Abhimanyu Rana, conducted a thorough review of all arrangements on Monday. Shukla emphasized that over 6000 police personnel, supervised by gazetted rank officers, were deployed to ensure the safety and comfort of devotees.

Multi-Layered Surveillance System

A comprehensive surveillance system was put in place, including 100 CCTV cameras at 37 key locations. Two drone teams provided aerial monitoring of crowded and sensitive areas. A mounted police force was deployed for crowd control and area domination.

Authorities established 94 nakas, with 54 outer and 40 inner checkpoints, enforcing strict checking orders. Police Saanjh Help Desks were set up in every sector, each equipped with medical teams. Hospitals were designated in each sector, with ambulances and fire brigades strategically stationed to handle emergencies.

Traffic Management Plan

A special traffic plan was devised to ensure seamless movement and zero inconvenience to devotees. Heavy vehicles were completely barred from entering the town, with only emergency vehicles allowed on designated routes.

To manage the influx, 10 parking spaces were earmarked on all roads leading into the city. Six temporary bus stands were established. A 300-metre radius around Gurdwara Sahib was declared a strict no-vehicle zone.

These measures aim to provide a safe and orderly environment for the devotees participating in the Maghi festivities.
