Over 5,000 Join BJP in Assam's Lakhimpur, Boost for Party Ahead of 2026 Polls
Mass BJP Joining in Assam's Lakhimpur Ahead of 2026 Elections

In a significant political development ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a substantial boost in the state's Lakhimpur district. More than 5,000 people formally joined the ruling party in a large-scale ceremony held on Tuesday.

A Wave of New Entrants

The event saw a diverse group of new members aligning with the BJP. The gathering included former members of the Indian National Congress and several other political parties, alongside representatives from various local organisations. A notable feature of this mass joining was the significant participation of women, highlighting a broad-based shift in political allegiance.

Presiding over the ceremony, Lakhimpur BJP MLA Manab Deka welcomed the newcomers by presenting them with the party's signature scarves and caps. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as the crowd swelled with new supporters.

Leadership and Development: The Core Appeal

Addressing the gathering, MLA Manab Deka stated that this wave of support is a direct reflection of the people's trust in the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He credited the BJP's focus on development and delivery as the key reasons behind the political shift.

"The people of Assam are no longer willing to trust parties that practiced appeasement politics and ignored real issues of the people for decades," Deka asserted. He emphasized that under the current leadership, the BJP has delivered on its promises concerning peace, infrastructure development, and social welfare schemes. He described the mass joining as proof that the electorate desires continuity and sustained progress.

BJP's Expanding Base and Election Momentum

With the Assam Assembly elections expected to be announced early next year, BJP leaders indicated that the party is intensifying its outreach across all districts to consolidate its organisational strength. This event in Lakhimpur is seen as a part of that strategic momentum.

Deka highlighted that the BJP's focus remains firmly on inclusive growth, women's empowerment, and youth-oriented programmes. "The enthusiasm among women and youth today shows that BJP is not just a party — it has become a people’s movement in Assam," he added.

New members, including former Congress workers, expressed their confidence in the BJP's development agenda. A local youth leader who switched sides said, "We have seen real change in our villages through welfare schemes, road development, and employment drives. That’s why we decided to join the BJP family."

The ceremony concluded with resonant chants of "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Modi, Himanta Zindabad." Party insiders revealed that more such joining programmes are planned in the coming weeks as the BJP builds its campaign for the crucial 2026 state elections.
