Major IAS Reshuffle in Telangana, GHMC Expanded

In a significant administrative overhaul, the Telangana state government executed a major reshuffle late on Thursday, transferring 27 IAS officers and appointing new zonal commissioners for the recently expanded Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

Key Appointments and Transfers

Jayesh Ranjan, the Special Chief Secretary, has been appointed as the Special Chief Secretary for Metropolitan Area and Urban Development, covering the HMDA limits. This move relieves Chief Secretary K Rama Krishna Rao of the full additional charge he was holding. Ranjan will, however, continue to oversee the youth advancement and tourism department. This crucial post had remained vacant for several months following the transfer of Ilambarithi.

Chief Secretary K Rama Krishna Rao will continue to hold the full additional charge of Special Chief Secretary and CEO of the industry and investment cell in the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), along with the Smart Proactive Efficient and Effective Delivery (SPEED) initiative.

In another key transfer, M Haritha, the collector of Rajanna-Sircilla, has been posted as the Secretary of the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC), replacing Priyanka Ala. Garima Agarwal, the additional collector, has been given the charge of Rajanna-Sircilla collector until further orders.

Other Notable Postings

The reshuffle saw several other important changes. EV Narasimha Reddy, the additional CEO of the investment cell, has been relieved and will continue as the Managing Director of the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation. Bhavesh Mishra, Deputy Secretary in the IT department, has been given the additional charge of Additional CEO of industry and investment.

Narayan Amit Malempati, sub-collector of Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district, has been posted as Additional Collector (Local Bodies) in Narayanpet. A Nirmala Kanthi Wesley, Secretary and CEO of the Telangana Human Rights Commission, has been made the in-charge Director of Employment and Training.

G Veera Reddy, Additional Collector (Revenue) in Yadadri-Bhongir, has been posted as the Executive Director (Land Acquisition) for TGIIC.

GHMC Expansion and New Zonal Commissioners

This administrative reshuffle comes on the heels of a major expansion of the GHMC. The civic body's area has been expanded from 650 square kilometers to about 2,000 square kilometers. Following the near-completion of the delimitation process, the government has created additional zones and circles to improve decentralization and public service delivery.

Consequently, the GHMC now comprises 12 zones and 60 circles, a significant increase from the previous structure of 6 zones and 30 circles. The government, in its official order, stated that the civic body's population has now crossed 1.3 crore (13 million).

The government has appointed new zonal commissioners for all 12 zones. The list of appointed officers is as follows:

  • Bhorkhade Hemant Sahadeorao (Serilingampally)
  • Apurv Chauhan (Kukatpally)
  • Sandeep Kumar Jha (Qutubullapur)
  • S Srinivas Reddy (Charminar)
  • G Mukunda Reddy (Golconda)
  • Priyanka Ala (Khairatabad)
  • Anuraag Jayanti (Rajendranagar)
  • N Ravi Kiran (Secunderabad)
  • K Chandrakala (Shamshabad)
  • Hemanta Keshav Patil (LB Nagar)
  • Sanchit Gangwar (Malkajgiri)

This large-scale transfer and the restructuring of the GHMC are aimed at streamlining administration and enhancing governance in the rapidly growing metropolitan region of Hyderabad.
