Mahayuti Alliance Secures Nanded Mayor Post in Maharashtra Civic Elections

The ruling Mahayuti alliance clinched the mayor's position in the Nanded Waghala Municipal Corporation on Friday. Vote counting for the 81-member corporation started at 10 am and showed clear trends favoring the coalition.

BJP Leads with Strong Ward Performance

The Bharatiya Janata Party demonstrated strong performance in Nanded. Party candidates won 40 civic wards outright. They maintained leads in five additional wards as counting progressed.

Their alliance partner, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, secured one seat. The Shiv Sena also led in six other wards, strengthening the Mahayuti position.

Opposition Parties Trail Behind

Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party managed to win seven seats in the corporation. The Congress party and its allies secured six wards. They led in four other contests as counting continued.

Four candidates from Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen also emerged victorious in their respective wards.

Statewide Civic Elections Held Thursday

Polling for the Nanded Waghala Municipal Corporation occurred on Thursday. Elections took place simultaneously for 28 other civic bodies across Maharashtra. Voters participated actively in this important democratic exercise.

BJP Poised for Mumbai Municipal Control

The BJP appears set to secure the mayor's post in Mumbai's Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation too. Along with the Shiv Sena, the party heads toward its highest-ever tally in the BMC.

The undivided Shiv Sena controlled the BMC for 27 consecutive years. This changed after the party split in 2022. The division created factions led by Eknath Shinde and former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Bal Thackeray originally founded the Shiv Sena in 1966. His son Uddhav Thackeray later led the party before the split occurred.

BMC Remains India's Richest Municipal Body

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation continues as India's wealthiest municipal corporation. It ranks among Asia's richest local government bodies too.

The BMC approved an annual budget of Rs 74,400 crore for the 2026–27 financial year. This substantial allocation underscores the corporation's financial significance.

Counting continues across Maharashtra as final results emerge. The Mahayuti alliance demonstrates strong performance in urban centers throughout the state.
