The ruling Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra is heading for a decisive victory in the state's urban local body elections, with the coalition leading in a staggering 236 out of 288 municipal councils and nagar panchayats where counting was underway on Sunday. State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Ravindra Chavan attributed the sweeping performance to the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Fadnavis's Vision and Booth Workers Hailed for Success
Addressing a jubilant gathering of party workers at the BJP headquarters in Mumbai, Chavan stated that the results were a direct outcome of CM Devendra Fadnavis's political vision, hard work, and commitment to public development. He emphasized that the credit for steering the alliance to this triumph goes squarely to the Chief Minister.
"The BJP alone is likely to win between 122 to 134 local bodies. In terms of councillor seats, our tally will be close to 3,000," Chavan announced amidst celebratory drum beats. He also extended appreciation to the entire state cabinet and the party's massive network of 1.6 lakh booth workers whose tireless efforts strengthened the party's organization on the ground.
Public Rejected Opposition's 'Fake Narratives': Chavan
Chavan took the opportunity to thank the electorate for reposing their faith in the BJP and the Mahayuti alliance. He claimed that voters had decisively rejected what he termed as "fake narratives" propagated by the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
"In the Lok Sabha polls, the people were misled by the MVA with an 'anti-Constitution' narrative. This time, the Opposition tried to create the 'vote chori' and other false campaigns during the local body polls," Chavan said. "But the people have shown them their place by rejecting their false propaganda." He highlighted that the public's trust was evident even before polling on December 2, with 100 BJP councillors winning their seats unopposed.
Amit Shah's 51% Vote Share Goal Remembered
The state BJP chief also recalled Union Home Minister Amit Shah's address to party workers in Mumbai, where he set ambitious targets for the organization. Chavan noted that Shah consistently urges karyakartas to strive for a 51 per cent vote share to ensure the BJP's victory at every level of governance, from Parliament to the panchayats.
The resounding lead in these local polls is being viewed by the ruling coalition as a strong indicator of public support and a positive trailer for future electoral contests. The celebrations at the party office reflected the confidence within the Mahayuti camp as they await the final results.
