Mizoram's State Election Commissioner H Lalthangliana made a significant announcement on Friday, revealing the complete schedule for the upcoming Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) elections during a press conference held in Aizawl.
Election Schedule and Key Dates
The polling for the 25-member autonomous council will take place on December 3, 2023, with the model code of conduct coming into immediate effect from the announcement date. The election notification was officially issued on Friday, allowing candidates to file their nominations immediately.
According to Lalthangliana, the nomination process will remain open until 3 PM on November 14, with scrutiny of all nominations scheduled to be conducted on the same day after the deadline. The final date for withdrawal of nominations has been set for November 17 until 12 PM, after which the final lists of candidates and symbol allotment will be officially notified.
Polling and Counting Procedures
Voting will be conducted on December 3 from 7 AM to 4 PM, with provisions for repolling if necessary on December 4. The counting of votes has been scheduled for December 9, and the entire election process is expected to be completed by December 12.
The election commission has appointed three returning officers and three assistant returning officers to oversee the smooth conduct of the LADC polls, ensuring proper administration and monitoring throughout the electoral process.
Voter Statistics and Constituency Details
The upcoming LADC elections will see participation from 56,873 registered electors, comprising 27,854 male voters and 29,019 female voters. Among the various constituencies, Sakeilui seat leads with the highest number of electors at 3,993, while Cheural constituency has the smallest electorate with only 1,381 voters.
The detailed voter distribution across constituencies highlights the democratic representation within the autonomous district council, with significant participation expected from all segments of the electorate.
