The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) has strongly condemned the arrest of its coordinator Sarvan Singh Pandher and other forum leaders. This action occurred ahead of a planned protest during Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's visit to Majitha on Sunday.
Arrests Spark Outrage
Sarvan Singh Pandher was taken into custody on Friday night. The KMM had earlier announced its intention to question Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann during his Majitha visit in Amritsar district. They planned to raise several unresolved issues.
Key Demands of the Farmers
The forum intended to highlight multiple grievances. These included the dismantling of the Shambhu–Khanauri protest site, the alleged theft of trolleys, and other pending demands of the farming community.
KMM Leaders Issue Stern Warning
Prominent KMM leaders Manjit Singh Rai, Surjit Singh Phool, and Guramneet Singh Mangat spoke out against the arrests. They warned the state government to stop using such tactics. The leaders asserted that these actions would not crush their ongoing struggles.
"We will go to Majitha to raise our questions even if we face arrest," the leaders declared firmly.
Accusations Against the Government
The KMM leaders accused the government of displaying a repressive and anti-democratic mindset. They noted that a government which once claimed to be pro-farmer is now attempting to silence farmers' voices.
The farm forum issued a direct warning to the AAP government. They stated that farmers' movements cannot be crushed through arrests, threats, or police force.
Commitment to Protest
The KMM remains resolute. They affirmed that their declared action in Majitha will proceed under all circumstances. "Neither arrests nor threats will be able to stop this struggle," they emphasized.
A Message for the Chief Minister
The leaders had a pointed message for Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. They urged him not to act like a chief minister who follows orders from Delhi. Instead, they called on him to behave like the chief minister of the people of Punjab.
The situation highlights the ongoing tensions between the farming community and the state government in Punjab. The KMM's determination suggests further confrontations may lie ahead.
