Mangaluru Assembly Speaker UT Khader has taken a proactive stance to address the prolonged delay in opening the completed Mahakalipadpu Railway Underbridge (RUB) to the public. The crucial infrastructure project, designed to provide direct connectivity to Mangaluru city from the Kerala and Ullal sides, remains inaccessible despite construction work being finished.
Speaker's Intervention on Infrastructure Delay
On Wednesday, UT Khader announced his intention to hold immediate discussions with concerned officials and ministers to break the impasse. Khader revealed that he had originally approved the project during his tenure as the Urban Development Minister, envisioning it as a key component in upgrading the city's infrastructure network.
"The work was delayed due to various reasons. Now that only a few pending works remain, discussions will be held with the district minister and other stakeholders to ensure that the RUB is opened to traffic at the earliest," Khader informed reporters. He committed to a personal site visit to review the ground-level issues and direct officials to take necessary corrective actions.
Healthcare Boost for Coastal Karnataka
Shifting focus to public health, Speaker Khader shed light on significant proposals aimed at enhancing medical facilities in the region. He confirmed that discussions are underway to establish satellite units of the prestigious Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research and the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology in Mangaluru.
This move follows the successful setup of similar units in Kalaburagi and Mysuru. A centre in Mangaluru is expected to be a major relief for economically disadvantaged patients from four to five neighbouring districts, who currently undertake arduous journeys to the city for advanced treatment. Khader emphasized that these government-run centres would help balance the high treatment costs for heart and cancer care in private hospitals. "The proposal needs to be included in the budget," he stated, outlining the next step for the plan.
Upholding Decency in Legislative Conduct
Responding to queries on recent controversies, including objections over a 'Harikatha' remark made within the assembly, Speaker Khader chose to highlight the decorum of the house. He described the assembly as functioning like a family, where internal matters are best resolved internally.
However, he took a moment to underscore the esteemed reputation of coastal region legislators. Khader stressed that the representatives from the coast have historically been known for their courtesy, simplicity, and decency, values he insists must be conscientiously preserved and upheld in all proceedings.
