Kerala Man Dies by Suicide After Losing Rs 13 Lakh in Job Scams
In a tragic incident, a 44-year-old man reportedly died by suicide at Thungapara in Kattakada, Thiruvananthapuram, on Thursday morning. Police have identified the deceased as Pramod, who was found hanging inside his house. According to authorities, he took this extreme step shortly after having tea with his wife, highlighting the sudden nature of the act.
Financial Distress and Job Scams Lead to Tragedy
Police investigations reveal that Pramod was in severe financial distress, allegedly falling victim to multiple job scams. Family members stated that he had paid approximately Rs 10 lakh to an individual who promised him a job in Canada and an additional Rs 3 lakh to another person to secure employment in a cooperative bank. Despite waiting for nearly five years, neither job materialized, and he failed to recover his money.
To finance these hopes, Pramod had taken out loans, including through a chit fund, specifically aiming to secure the overseas job. As repayment pressures mounted and recovery threats intensified, he reportedly faced overwhelming mental stress, which ultimately contributed to his decision.
Family and Police Response
Pramod is survived by his wife, Anju, and daughter Ananya, who is a Class VII student. The family's grief is compounded by the financial ruin left behind. Kattakada police promptly conducted an inquest at the scene and shifted the body to a medical college hospital for a postmortem examination to ascertain further details.
This case underscores the devastating impact of fraudulent job schemes, which prey on individuals seeking better opportunities. Authorities are likely to investigate the scams further to prevent similar incidents.
