Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan Launches Scathing Attack on Rebel Leader G Sudhakaran

In a fiery address at Haripad on Wednesday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan launched a blistering critique against rebel leader G Sudhakaran, accusing him of political opportunism and attempting to conceal his past by aligning with opposition parties.

Accusations of Opportunism and Hidden Agendas

Vijayan asserted that Sudhakaran is wearing a Congress cap and portraying himself as a new persona to satisfy that party, necessitating the relinquishment of his past. He alleged that this calculated rebranding explains why Sudhakaran is challenging the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and predicted that his political decline will persist as a consequence.

The Chief Minister emphasized the historical resilience of Alappuzha, particularly referencing the Punnapra-Vayalar struggles, where the region has consistently stood firm behind CPM during critical junctures. "That is the strength of the movement. Comrades and residents stand with the party and not with an individual," he declared, underscoring collective loyalty over personal allegiance.

Electoral Maneuvers and Coalition Politics

Speaking about Sudhakaran's candidature, Vijayan revealed intricate details of alleged political negotiations. "Congress leaders were told that 15,000 votes will come from CPM, which they will appreciate. Another aspect to consider is BJP's claim of 5,000 votes, which the candidate mentioned for the first time," he stated, highlighting what he described as covert discussions between Congress and BJP.

Vijayan questioned the transparency of these dealings, noting, "It is unclear what offer BJP gave." He pointed out that Sudhakaran emerged as a Congress candidate, but it remains ambiguous whether the idea to contest as an independent to secure BJP votes originated from him or the Congress leadership itself.

The Chief Minister accused them of attempting to join hands with BJP to defeat CPM in the Ambalappuzha constituency. He dismissed this strategy as a delusion, asserting that LDF has maintained a winning streak in Ambalappuzha for an extended period, making such an electoral upset highly improbable.

Campaign Rhetoric and Historical Warnings

Later during a campaign event in Ambalappuzha, Vijayan delivered a pointed message without directly naming Sudhakaran. He warned that individuals adopting opportunistic stands will be "drowned in the cesspool of history." He characterized Ambalappuzha as a symbol of the United Democratic Front's (UDF) opportunistic politics but cautioned against underestimating the people of Alappuzha.

"They have LDF in their hearts and this land of Punnapra martyrs will not encourage cheating," he proclaimed, invoking the region's revolutionary legacy to rally support. Vijayan contrasted Alappuzha's steadfast political direction with those who have succumbed to shifting allegiances, charting their own divergent paths.

Condemnation of Vote-Buying Allegations

Vijayan further condemned what he described as an opportunistic political stand by Sudhakaran and Congress. "They decided to buy BJP votes. Their way to defeat LDF is the support of UDF and a fixed number of BJP votes," he alleged, framing their strategy as reliant on pre-arranged vote transfers.

He challenged the electorate to reflect on this approach, questioning why they should accept such opportunistic political maneuvering. The Chief Minister's remarks underscore the intense political rivalry and strategic calculations unfolding in Kerala's electoral landscape, particularly in the historically significant region of Alappuzha.
