The Janata Dal (United) has launched an ambitious organizational push, setting a target to enroll one crore new members by 2026. Senior party leaders are holding a series of meetings across Bihar to strategize and energize workers for this massive membership campaign.
Leadership Meeting in Patna Sets the Tone
On Friday, JD(U) national general secretary and Rural Works Minister Ashok Choudhary convened a crucial meeting with party functionaries in Patna. The objective was to inject momentum into the ongoing membership drive. Choudhary reminded attendees that the campaign was formally inaugurated by the party's national president and Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, on December 6, at the JD(U) headquarters in Patna.
Addressing the cadre, Choudhary described the drive as a historic step for strengthening the party's organizational framework. He emphasized that all members must collaborate to advance the campaign and fortify the JD(U) in alignment with the vision of their leadership.
Formulating a Concrete Action Plan
In discussions with The Times of India, Ashok Choudhary revealed that detailed deliberations were held with senior leaders and workers to ensure the membership campaign is both comprehensive and successful. A significant outcome of these meetings is the formulation of a concrete action plan designed specifically to achieve the ambitious one crore member goal.
Active party workers were briefed about this target during the meeting. Ranjeet Kumar Jha, the party's state general secretary, stated that the JD(U) resolves to launch an intensive and meticulously planned campaign that will penetrate down to the booth level. This grassroots approach is intended to expedite the enrollment process across the state.
District-Level Reviews Underway
The momentum for the drive is being generated at multiple levels. Earlier, on Wednesday, JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha reviewed the progress of the membership campaign at a separate meeting in Khagaria district. Kushwaha issued a clear directive to party officials and workers: focus on enrolling the maximum number of people.
He stressed that the one crore target is non-negotiable and must be achieved through full effort within the stipulated timeframe. Kushwaha urged every worker to play an active role and connect with the public through extensive outreach programs, thereby broadening the party's base.
The JD(U)'s concerted efforts signal a major organizational overhaul as it prepares for future political challenges, with the membership drive being a cornerstone of its strategy to consolidate power and influence in Bihar.
